Water Leaks

Detecting and fixing leaks in and around your home not only conserves water, it saves you money.

If you hear water flowing, but no appliances are turned on, you may have a leak. Check your water meter before and after a two-hour period when no water is being used. If the meter changes at all, you likely have a leak.

When it comes to fixing leaks, some small leaks are visible and may be simple enough to fix yourself. However, repairing larger hidden leaks may require you to contact a professional.

Visible Leaks
Examples of visible leaks include dripping faucets or showerheads, running toilets, and water collecting under sinks. Other sources include appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, and refrigerators with ice makers. Check underneath these appliances for water spots or stains.

Hidden Leaks
Hidden leaks can be caused when any appliance piped to a drain is leaking. Because the appliance is hooked to a drain, a hidden leak can go unnoticed for long periods of time unless there is a large spike in water usage on the bill. Hidden leaks can also occur underground.
