Students from multiple disciplines visited a solar panel farm located at Citizens’ Belmont Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Land is leased to D.E. Shaw and maintained by Swinerton Energy. The 5.2 MW (DC) facility repurposes a No-Dig site where no soil removal is permitted.
Participants learned about the unique utilization of ballasted fixed arrays and how the sun’s rays are captured through the panels and converted to energy. In addition, students were able to learn about the transformers and communication components used to operate the site remotely.
